Bihar Diwas 2023: Bihar Day, popularly known as Bihar Diwas is celebrated every year on March 22 to commemorate the formation of the state of Bihar. On this day in 1912, Bihar and Orissa were carved out of the Bengal Presidency as separate provinces. On the completion of 111 years of Bihar state, various cultural events would be organised on Gandhi Maidan, Patna.

History
Bihar Day marks the formation of Bihar state from the Bengal presidency. It was formed on March 22, 1912, when the British government partitioned the Bengal Province. Before the formation of Bihar state, the region was part of the Bengal Province, which included present-day West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of Orissa and Bangladesh. However, the people of Bihar felt that they were neglected and discriminated against by the British government, and they demanded a separate province.
Significance
The day is observed as a state holiday, and various cultural programs, parades, and other events are organized across the state to celebrate the occasion. It is an important day for the people of Bihar as it marks the establishment of their identity as a distinct state with a unique cultural heritage. Theme
Bihar Diwas has a different theme every year. This year, the theme of Bihar Day 2023 is “Yuva Shakti Bihar Ki Pragati” which means Progress of Bihar through Youth Power.
Events
On the first day, popular singer Javed Ali will entertain the audience with his music at Gandhi Maidan. Various local artists including Alok Raj, Ashok Mishra, Nitu Kumari Nutan and Prachi Pallavi Sahay will perform before the audience at a musical event at SK Memorial Hall. On the same day, a ‘Kavi Sammelan’ by Shambhui Shekhar and his team will be organized at Rabindra Bhavan.
On day two, March 23 renowned folk singer Maithili Thakur and rock band ‘Indian Ocean’ will perform at Gandhi Maidan. While Niazi Brothers and singer Talat Aziz will perform at SK Memorial Hall.
On the last day of Bihar Diwas 2023, March 21, singers Aishwarya Nigam and Deepali Sahay will perform at Gandhi Maidan. In another event, Kumud Diwan, Ninad and Nalini Joshi will perform at SK Memorial Hall.
