According to a historian, Joe Biden broke years of American tradition by not attending the Coronation of King Charles III and not sending a delegation.
A US president has never attended the Coronation of any British monarch.
However, they have sent “carefully chosen” delegations to represent the US in an official capacity, the expert said.
This time, though, Joe Biden sent no formal delegation to the UK whatsoever.
His wife Jill Biden, who was slammed for tweeting during the ceremony today, was only attending as a guest, the White House confirmed, meaning there was no official presence for the US Government at the event.

Historian Arianne Chernock explained the last president during the time of a British Coronation, Dwight D. Eisenhower “put a lot of thought and months of planning into his delegation.”
He send two military heroes and the high-society publisher Fleur Cowles to the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
Chernock told the New York Post: “Joe Biden clearly hasn’t made it a high priority, as past presidents have done.”
Jill Biden did not announce an agenda for the visit. The historian asked: “Is she simply there to pay her respects and engage in a bit of tourism? We’ll have to see.”
Since she has been in the UK, landing on Thursday, Jill has attended a number of events.
She met with the wife of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and visited a school to speak with students.
On Friday night, Jill attended a reception alongside Kate Middleton. She was seen speaking animatedly with the royal, her granddaughter Finnegan Biden in tow.
Joe Biden explained his absence from the Coronation in an interview on MSNBC.
He told the news channel: “I told him (King Charles III) I couldn’t be there because I have this going on.”
The president added: “He’s a good acquaintance and we’ve worked together on environmental issues.”
