BGT’s Kerri-Anne Donaldson spoke of ‘dark places’ months before she died

Kerri-Anne Donaldson, who performed with Kings and Queens on Britain’s Got Talent in 2014, has died, her older sister Cara Donaldson has confirmed on Facebook.

Cara shared several family photos featuring her and Kerri last night to share the news, writing: “My heart hurts and my world has just collapsed around me.

“My beautiful baby sister is no longer with us and I don’t know how to process it. I love you Kerri, you’re my best friend, we were inseparable and right now I don’t know how to fill the void. Be peaceful and hold Nan tight.”

The Supadance National League also announced the sad news, but the cause of the dancer’s death has not yet been reported.

In a candid post shared on Medium, the professional dancer spoke openly about her struggles following the Covid pandemic and admitted she had struggled to remain motivated.

In March last year, she penned a candid piece titled, “Expectation vs Reality”, and while she explained the world is an “amazing place” social media has altered people’s perspectives.

She claimed “most of us are now trapped in an insta lie and we’re too consumed by what others think” as people’s ability to be individuals are disappearing, adding we are a “generation that has taken ‘Cat fishing’ to a whole new level”.

Kerri also explained she had struggled financially since the pandemic took opportunities away from the dancer.

She wrote: “Behind my very own cherry-picked Instagram pictures, lies an ugly truth.

“The last two years have challenged me beyond belief, it’s definitely not all been sunshine and rainbows.

“The last two years have challenged me beyond belief, it’s definitely not all been sunshine and rainbows. My career was hit so badly that indeed, it affected my financial situation.

“My future prospects were put on hold for the foreseeable, and my motivation was becoming harder to maintain.

“I have admittedly had moments of self-doubt and anxiety, and I have had to take action to save myself from those dark places that are very hard to return from.”

The BGT star went on to say: “I am now stuck in a hamster wheel, trying to move forward without admitting to anyone, including myself, that my life isn’t as shiny as it seems.”

The dancer admitted she had always craved a luxurious lifestyle and craved big opportunites but was “naive” to the fact that people wanted her to fail.

Kerri concluded that the “future is bright” but people must learn to embrace their imperfections and try to remain true to ourselves despite living in a “fake” world.

Kerri performed on BGT alongside Strictly professionals Katya Jones, Neil Jones and Kai Widdrington as part of Latin dance troupe Kings and Queens.

Kings and Queens reached the semi-finals of the ITV show, but were voted out, while boy band Collabro went on to win that year.
