BGMI & PUBG Publisher Krafton Acquires The Ascent Dev Neon Giant, Its Eighth Indie Studio
Battlegrounds Mobile India and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds publisher Krafton has revealed that it acquired Swedish studio Neon Giant for an undisclosed amount.
The company revealed this in an earnings press release on November 11. The acquisition of The Ascent developer makes this the eighth indie studio that Krafton has acquired so far.
Neon Giant AB was founded in April 2018 and is headquartered in Uppsala, Sweden. It developed and released the cyberpunk-themed action RPG The Ascent in July 2021. The game received praise in IGN’s review for its satisfying gunplay and for being an enjoyable action-RPG.
Krafton also acquired Natural Selection and Subnautica developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment in October 2021. Most recently, the South Korean video game holding company acquired 5minlab Corporation in February 2022.
Krafton also said that it plans to “establish a major studio in Canada to lead development of The Bird That Drinks Tears project.” The company also has multiple “high-quality console and PC titles in active development across various genres, including Project Black Budget (PvPvE hardcore looter shooter), Project Roam (multiplayer PvPvE shooter) and the next Subnautica game (adventure).”
