Beverley Knight issues stark warning to ‘feral’ fans throwing things on stage

Beverley Knight faces a new fear when she heads on stage for concerts as more chart-topping artists are being pelted with items from their fans in the crowd.

The Wolverhampton native cautioned her fanbase, hoping to deter any concertgoers from following suit.

Speaking to the Metro at the O2 Silver Clef Awards, the 50-year-old warned: “Swear to god, if someone throws something at me I’ll stop the concert. Leave the stage until said person has been removed or reprimanded or whatever and we’ll carry on but we’re not doing that, no!”

The Greatest Day singer questioned if fans had decided to be “feral” or if they “forgot how to human” after the pandemic ended.

The singer is not the only critic of the startling trend, describing it as “crazy” and begging fans to “stop and enjoy the music”.

American singer Bebe Rexha was the first victim in mid-June as she performed a concert in New York as a fan flung their cellphone at her.

The phone brutally smacked Bebe’s face, leaving the singer stumbling backwards in shock before falling to her knees and being escorted off stage by her crew.

Fans across the venue captured the bizarre moment on camera from a multitude of different angles, many of which quickly went viral on social media.

The next day the Sabotage singer took to Instagram, declaring “I’m good” alongside a selfie that showed her fresh black eye and some medical tape across her eyebrow.

Days later, country singer Kelsea Ballerini suffered a similar fate, captured again from all angles by fans, as she performed in Idaho.

As she strummed her guitar, the singer suddenly flung herself backwards and stumbled away from the microphone with a hand hovering over the left side of her face while her violinist rushed to her aide.

Although she quickly returned to singing, Kelsea later explained on Instagram that she had been hit in the eye by a bracelet but assured fans: “It more so just scared me than hurt me.”

What About Us singer Pink was similarly stunned during her Hyde Park concert last week as a fan threw a small bag at her feet as she sang her 2001 hit Just Like a Pill.

The 43-year-old investigated the bag before looking to the fan with a face of horror exclaiming: “Wait, is this your mom?”

The fan seemed to confirm that it was her mother’s ashes as the singer said: “I don’t know how I feel about this.” before placing the bag at the front of the stage.
