Best supplements for tiredness: Two daily pills to help eradicate your fatigue symptoms

Tiredness and fatigue are common complaints among many and with the end of another tumultuous year, energy levels for most are at an all time low. Taking either a melatonin or a vitamin B12 supplement, however, can help lift your energy levels and improve your overall mood.

Melatonin, which is also known as “the sleep hormone”, could also be taken as supplements.

If you usually struggle to fall asleep, it may leave you feeling tired and run down the next day.

But supplementing melatonin should help to relieve any signs of insomnia, according to dietitian Gavin Van De Walle.

The capsules may subsequently lower your chances of persistent fatigue, while boosting energy, he said.

Melatonin is responsible for the establishment of an adequate energy balance mainly by regulating energy flow to and from the stores and directly regulating the energy expenditure through the activation of brown adipose tissue and participating in the browning process of white adipose tissue, reported a study published in Wiley Online.

It added: “The reduction in melatonin production, as during ageing, shift-work or illuminated environments during the night, induces insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, and sleep disturbances.

“Melatonin is the key mediator molecule for the integration between the cyclic environment and the circadian distribution of physiological and behavioural processes and for the optimization of energy balance.”

Many foods are also fortified with B12, allowing most people to meet their vitamin B 12 needs by consuming a balanced diet containing foods rich in B12.

Nevertheless, some may be at risk of B12 deficiency, which occurs when the body does not get enough or is unable to absorb the amount needed.

As a result, some people’s energy levels may receive a boost with B12 supplements.

Often a person feels tired simply because they’re mildly dehydrated.

More than half your body weight comes from water.

So, it’s little surprise that your levels of fatigue can often be off.

Mild dehydration can make you feel tired, give you a headache, and affect your mood and focus.

A big glass of water will do the trick, especially after exercise.
