Best country in Europe for British expats named
A new survey has crowned Mexico the best country in the world for British expats but luckily for Britons there’s another amazing destination a little closer to home.
The InterNations Expat Insider survey asks expats around the world to rate their home based on several key factors.
Expats ranked their home on healthcare, quality of life, safety and security, working conditions and personal finance.
Spain topped the rankings in Europe and came second overall with expats rating quality of life there particularly highly.
The country was also ranked best worldwide for its leisure options with almost 90 percent of expats happy with the country’s choice of cultural and nightlife activities.
One expat told the survey: “I love the sea, beach, weather and sporting activities. I don’t need a car to get around with the great public transportation.”
Expats were also impressed with Spain’s healthcare system and over 80 percent found it affordable.
More than two in three expats were happy with the cost of living and Spain landed just outside the top 10 for affordable housing.
Over 80 percent of expats said they felt at home in Spain while over three quarters found it easy to get used to the local culture.
Spain ranked well on social life with more than seven in 10 expats saying they felt happy with their lifestyle.
British expats might need to get used to later eating times in Spain and one expat said they were surprised by the public displays of affection.
