Best and worst schools in Islington according to Ofsted

Councils confirmed the secondary school that your child has a place at last week (March 1).

The Islington Gazette has looked at which are the best schools across the borough, and which are the worst according to Ofsted.

Outstanding

 

Nine schools in Islington currently have the education watchdog’s highest ‘outstanding’ rating. 

Central Foundation Boys’ School, in Cowper Street, City Road, was last inspected February 3-4, 2015.

The most recent outstanding inspection was for the all-girls community school Highbury Fields School (September 27-28, 2022).

The other outstanding schools in Islington, as well as the date of their most recent Ofsted report are: 

City of London Academy Islington, mixed comprehensive – April 5, 2019

Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School, all-girls comprehensive – monitoring visit November 20, 2020

North Bridge House Senior Canonbury School, independent school – June 15 2015

Richard Cloudesley School, special school – July 27, 2018

Samuel Rhodes MLD School, special school – July 15, 2022

The Bridge Integrated Learning Space, special school – November 20, 2017

The Bridge School, special school – February 5, 2020

Good

 

Eight school in the borough are rated good by Ofsted. These are listed below alongisde the date of their most recent Ofsted report.

Arts and Media School Islington, mixed comprehensive – December 7, 2017

Beacon High, mixed school – January 23, 2023

City of London Academy Highbury Grove, mixed school – June 21, 2022

St Aloysius RC College, boys’ comprehensive (mixed sixth form) – July 21, 2022

St Mary Magdalene Academy, mixed school – June 22, 2022

St Mary Magdalene Academy: the Courtyard, special school – June 7, 2017

St Paul’s Steiner School, independent school – May 8, 2019

The Bridge Satellite Provision, special school – May 4, 2022

Requires Improvement

 

Only one school in the borough is rated as ‘requiries improvement’ by the education watchdog. This is City of London Academy, Highgate Hill, a mixed school that was last inspected on January 18 and 19, 2022.

Inadequate

 

No schools in Islington have been given Ofsted’s lowest rating.
