Hotel bosses are already preparing to hang their “sold out” signs ahead of the Easter holidays.

Hospitality leaders in Benidorm, where Brits account for most of the holidaymakers, have announced record-breaking hotel reservations.

As reported by the Spanish newspaper, Informacion.es hotel rooms in Benidorm are 60 per cent full.

Meanwhile rooms in the city of Alicante and the Costa Blanca have reached 70 per cent occupancy.

Industry bosses expect these figures to climb to 90 per cent in the coming weeks because of last minute bookings by Spanish nationals.

General secretary, Nuria Montes said: “A large part of the international market is the one that reserves the most in advance.

“The next few weeks will increase the number of reservations by the Spanish market.”

The president of the Alicante Provincial Hotel Association, Luis Castillo, said: “[Some of their hotels] have practically already posted the full sign for those dates, especially for the five most outstanding days: from Thursday to Monday.”

This year the Easter weekend is between April 7 to April 10 with celebrations taking place across Spain the entire weekend.

Bookings from Spanish nationals will be boosted by positive weather reports with several holiday hotspots hoping to reach temperatures of 20 degrees over the Easter weekend.

Meanwhile, a Spanish island has been dubbed the country’s “new Ibiza” with locals saying it’s even better than the original.

Menorca, one of the Balearic Islands, has been named one of the hottest places to be this summer – and it’s not just because of the weather.
