Bench video adds to Kings drama with Marvin Bagley III
Another day, another piece of drama for the Sacramento Kings and their former No. 2 overall draft pick.
A few weeks after Marvin Bagley III – whom the Kings took over both Luka Doncic and Trae Young – ripped the team through his agent over a lack of playing time, a new report suggests he spurned head coach Luke Walton during Monday’s 109-104 loss to the Suns.
“Multiple sources told me that Marvin Bagley III refused to check into Sunday’s game when Luke Walton called upon him in the second half vs. the Suns,” ABC10’s Sean Cunningham tweeted, along with a video of Bagley appearing to have a brief discussion with a coach before sitting back down on the bench.
Walton addressed the report on Wednesday before the team’s game against the Spurs. He didn’t exactly give a straight answer on whether or not the rumor was true.
“Marvin and I are constantly in communication, and today was about San Antonio,” said Walton before the Kings were crushed 136-117 in San Antonio. “Today was a very good shootaround and we’re going into tonight. He and everyone else knows, we need everyone this year and everyone has to be ready.
“Anything that happens within our group, that’s between our group. So the thing that matters is people know what’s expected and we continue to move forward tonight.”
Just before the season opener, Sacramento informed Bagley that he would not be a part of the rotation and would be benched for the game against the Trail Blazers. The news came after a year of unsuccessfully trying to trade the 6-foot-11 center.

Bagley’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, blasted the Kings in a statement on Twitter.
“Sacramento has informed Marvin Bagley he is not in the opening night rotation, which is completely baffling,” the statement read. “It’s clear they have no plans for him in the future, and yet, passed on potential deals at last year’s deadline and this summer based on ‘value.’ Instead, they chose to bring him back but not play him, a move completely contradictory to their ‘value’ argument. This is a case study in mismanagement by the Kings organization.”
So far this season, Bagley has appeared in just one game, logging two points and four rebounds in 10 minutes.
