Ben Shephard’s surprising Harry Potter role that no one knows about

Many Good Morning Britain fans were shocked to find out that host Ben Shephard had a cameo in the Harry Potter film series.

Known to Potterheads as ‘Diagon Alley father’ Ben’s moustachioed character featured briefly in the sixth film in the franchise Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The Tipping Point presenter was recently called out by GMB colleague Laura Tobin for his role in the fantasy films.

She was visiting the Diagon Alley set and mentioned Ben’s role.

“I rarely talk about it, as you know Laura, but I had a part,” Ben joked.

“But the exciting thing was that I thought it would be a good thing to have a moustache. It really wasn’t – it’s the most irritating thing in the world.”

Laura mentioned that his costume disguised him so much and his cameo in the film is so brief that she wouldn’t have believed he was in the film until she saw the freeze frame of the scene he was in.

She said: “I’m so glad you [froze] that moment because I’ve watched that movie so many times to try and see him in it and I’m still not convinced you were!”

She added about his costume: “You look handsome like that, though! With the long hair!”

Ben said: “A young Sirius Black, I look like!

“But interestingly, Laura, if you’ve had a part, the crew in any of the films – and I was lucky to do a number of them – you’ve got a wand in Ollivanders, which is behind you. You actually have a wand in the wand shop! Have you found mine?”

She promised: “So we are allowed to go in but I’m not allowed to touch the wands, so I will go and find it!”

Ben has a long history with the film franchise, doing behind the scenes interviews with cast members and presenting backstage ‘the making of’ style segments for ITV.

He has also made a brief appearance in the popular US show Friends back in 2002 as the Man With Microphone in the episode The One Where Rachel Is Late.

Ben plays a reporter on the red carpet, trying to get an interview with Matt LeBlanc’s character Joey.

The surprise cameos never seem to stop with Ben.
