Ben Affleck grateful for flop Gigli as he ‘did get to meet Jennifer Lopez’
Ben Affleck has no major regrets about the iconic box office flop that was Gigli, as it meant he got to meet the love of his life Jennifer Lopez.
The Batman actor struck up a romance with the Love Don’t Cost A Thing singer when they worked together on the 2003 movie.
Gigli arguably became the most heavily-panned work of both Ben and Jennifer’s careers, but he has fond memories for one pretty sweet reason.
‘I did get to meet Jennifer, the relationship with whom has been really meaningful to me in my life,’ Ben told Entertainment Weekly.
He added: ‘If the reaction to Gigli hadn’t happened, I probably wouldn’t have ultimately decided, “I don’t really have any other avenue but to direct movies”, which has turned out to be the real love of my professional life.’
Gigli follows a hitman who is asked to kidnap the mentally ill brother of an influential federal prosecutor.
Of course, Ben, 49, and Jen, 52, are currently dating again after getting back together 17 years after they split.
The couple first became an item in 2002 and got engaged the following year before calling off their wedding in 2004 just days before the ceremony.
Following Jennifer’s split from fiance Alex Rodriguez in March 2021, she became reacquainted with her famous ex and Bennifer was born again.
However, Ben recently admitted he initially hesitated about reconciling with the Maid In Manhattan actress due to his three children.
The Pearl Harbor star shares daughters Violet, 16, and Seraphina, 12, and son Samuel, nine, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
‘It crossed my mind for sure,’ the actor told Howard Stern.
‘My responsibility to my children is the highest responsibility I have. So I’m not doing anything that’s painful or destructive to them if I can help it.
He added: ‘That being said, I know my life affects them.’
The director said it is already tough on his children with both he and their mother being celebrities, saying ‘that’s a f***ing cross to bear’ for a child’.
