‘Believe in us’ – Ronaldo sends battle cry ahead of World Cup playoff
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a defiant message ahead of their World Cup playoff showdown with Turkey.
The Reds talisman, as well as international and club teammates Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, were left crestfallen after Serbia’s late winner during their World Cup qualifier last time out. As a result, the Serbians secured the place on the plane to the tournament in Qatar forcing Ronaldo and co to secure their route through the playoff lottery.
Should they surpass Stefan Kuntz’s side, they could meet Italy in the playoff final to seal their spot in next November’s competition, potentially the 37-year-old’s last. That could set up a meeting with his former Juventus teammates who have been outspoken in their criticism of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner since his return to Old Trafford, including a warning from Leonardo Bonucci.

On Instagram to his 416m followers, the Euro 2016-winner wrote, which roughly translated to: “It’s no secret to anyone: representing my country is always a very special moment for me.
“Raise the name of Portugal very high, bring joy and pride to all Portuguese, show our young people that nothing is impossible!
“Believe in us, believe in our Selection. We will do everything to correspond to your support… Forca Portugal!”
During their qualification campaign, Ronaldo became the most prolific men’s international goalscorer after his late brace against the Republic of Ireland. He will undoubtedly be looking to steal the headlines and fire Fernando Santos’ side to his second World Cup, since taking charge in 2014.
