Beetlejuice 2 gets release date after Wednesday star joins cast
Beetlejuice 2 has been talked about for years behind the scenes, but it has just received its first official release date.
According to Variety, Beetlejuice 2 is going to hit cinemas next year on September 6, 2024.
This leaves a massive 36-year gap between the original film and its sequel, which was deemed a massive critical and commercial success after earning a staggering $74 million at the box office on a meagre $15 million budget.
While this is incredibly exciting news for fans of the original movie’s director, Tim Burton, there’s even more to get excited about: The Edward Scissorhands film-maker is returning to helm the sequel.
He’s also bringing back Michael Keaton as the titular bio-exorcist. The character was last seen in limbo with his head being shrunk after he himself was exorcised by the Maitlands.

Burton is also bringing back Winona Ryder for the sequel. She is reprising her role as Lydia Deetz, the strange and unusual former teenager who battled Beetlejuice in the original movie.
What’s more, Burton has recruited a newcomer to the fold: Jenna Ortega. The American star will be playing Lydia’s daughter in the sequel, and she’ll no doubt get caught up in Beetlejuice’s schemes.
Burton recently worked with Ortega on the hit Netflix show Wednesday, where she played Wednesday Addams. The TV show broke streaming records and became the second-most watched English-language Netflix series of all time.
Ortega isn’t the only newcomer to the series. The publication reported that Justin Theroux has also joined the picture, but his role has not yet been announced.
It has not yet been revealed whether Geena Davis or Alec Baldwin will reprise their roles as the recently deceased Adam and Barbara Maitland.
Production is expected to begin in London today, May 10, 2023.
Beetlejuice is available to rent on Prime Video now.
