‘Beautiful quiet’ seaside town is one of the UK’s best

As the UK heats up, many Britons can’t wait to get to the beach and enjoy an ice-cream or fish and chips.

A comprehensive ranking from the travel experts at Which? Travel crowned the UK’s best seaside towns.

But while Northumberland’s Bamburgh took the top spot, a gorgeous seaside town in Suffolk landed in the top 10.

Aldeburgh is a trendy seaside town in Suffolk situated just north of the River Alde. Its pretty beach could be the perfect spot to unwind this summer.

Which?s ranking awarded the town five stars for food and drink and four for its beach and seafront.

The town takes its name from ‘Alde’ and ‘Burgh’ which means old fort. It’s a former Tudor port which was given borough status by Henry VIII.

Its pebble beach is backed by a promenade and tourists won’t be far from fish and chips in the town.

A tourist ‘De M’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Beautiful quiet beach with high street nearby for eateries and facilities. Great for picnics and walking alone.”

Another visitor ‘jilly g’ said: “Relaxing place to walk and enjoy the scenery. Great character in the buildings, plus you can take advantage of locally caught fresh fish.”

‘Brian M’ said: “Wonderfully atmospheric. Get there at dawn, enjoy the atmosphere and have the place to yourself.”

Tourists can also spot the Aldeburgh Scallop, a giant sculpture of a scallop shell rising up from the shingle.

In the town, visitors can explore the Aldeburgh Museum or check out the historic Martello Tower.

Which?Travel’s ranking rated Skegness and Clacton-on-Sea as some of the country’s worst seaside resorts.

However although visitors did describe Clacton as “run down”, many tourists did still enjoy its beach.
