Filmmaker Peter Jackson admitted he had to have serious talks with Disney about breaking swearing rules for the new documentary, The Beatles: Get Back.
The-three part series, which will air on Disney Plus on November 25, takes the audience back in time to the band’s most intimate recording sessions.
The Oscar-winning director also revealed he dissected 57 hours of footage of the British superstars in action, and had to persuade the beloved company to authorise the foul language within the clips.
In an interview with Radio Times, Jackson, 60, explained: ‘We got Disney to agree to have swearing, which I think is the first time for a Disney channel. That makes them feel modern, too.’
The insightful feature-length film shows Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, and George Harrison as they recorded their Grammy-winning studio album Let It Be, which was released in 1970.
During this time, The Beatles were said to be extremely unhappy and Lennon once described their last recording session as ‘hell’.
Jackson added: ‘To this day, I have never got over the fact that there was actual fly-on-the-wall footage shot of any band working in the 60s.
‘The fact it happened, and it happened with The Beatles, is amazing. You watch them at work and see them much more honestly than in any other Beatles footage.
‘People won’t believe it when they see it. It’s like going back in a time machine.’
The New Zealand screenwriter recently said it took a long time to put the long-awaited special together.
He told British GQ: ‘We’ve been editing this series for about two years now and it’s the longest editing I’ve ever done in my career.
‘I mean, you normally edit a movie, like a Lord Of The Rings type, in about three or four months, but this has been two years. It’s a very complicated thing to cut.’
The Beatles: Get Back will air on Disney Plus on November 25.
