BBC’s Rachel Burden left emotional as she’s ‘caught unawares’ by co-star Nicky Campbell

Rachel Burden, 46, was “caught unawares” after her BBC Radio 5 Live co-star Nicky Campbell, 60, presented her with a gift this morning. It comes as the latter prepares to bid farewell to listeners of the breakfast show tomorrow.

Taking to Twitter, Rachel shared the candid tear-jerking moment which was captured on video.

In view of her 85,000 followers, she captioned the post: “This caught me unawares this morning,” followed by a crying emoji.

Speaking to listeners, Rachel began: “Nicky’s brought me in a present this morning.

“I haven’t actually looked at it yet.”

Nicky interjected: “It’s actually a prized possession of mine.”

As the broadcaster removed the packaging, Rachel suddenly let out a gasp in shock.

Nicky joked that it was a “picture of him” but later dished it was in fact one of his most treasured items.

Looking emotional, Rachel gushed: “It’s a copy of the poster that John Lennon used as inspiration for the song, Being the Benefit of Mr. Kite.

“My mascara is going to roll,” Rachel added while wiping the corner of her eyes.

In a follow-up tweet, the BBC broadcaster shared a snap of herself hugging the framed poster.

She captioned the post: “If you’re wondering what my face is doing here, it’s the look of love. @NickyAACampbell has given me one of his most treasured possessions. I have no words.”

Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! is a song recorded by British rock band The Beatles for their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

It was written and composed primarily by the late John Lennon, who was inspired to write the song after he purchased a 19th-century circus poster for Pablo Fanque’s Circus Royal appearance at Rochdale.

Twitter users flocked to comment on the sweet gift, as Mike Bloys penned: “I have that print it’s a wonderful gift. He’s a lovely man that @NickyAACampbell.”

“That made me have a little cry – what a wonderful gift. I’m really really going to miss you guys together in the mornings,” Fiona Slade commented.

Meanwhile, Nicky is to leave the breakfast show after almost two decades on Radio 5 Live.

He will host a new weekday show at the station which is set to launch this month.

Rachel previously described his departure as the “end of an era”.
