BBC’s Gethin Jones opens up about ‘terrifying’ stalker ordeal for the first time
BBC presenter Gethin Jones has opened up about his “terrifying” stalker ordeal for the first time, as the star admitted that he is regularly inundated with X-rated images.
The Welsh star, 45, started out at the face of BBC children’s TV after joining Blue Peter in 2005, but it turns out he was dealing with a rather dark situation off-air.
For the first time, the Moring Live host has opened up about his stalker ordeal on the Rig Biz podcast.
Asked about whether he’d ever had a stalker and whether the situation had been “terrifying”, he agreed that it was.
He remembered: “I did, back in Blue Peter. It was weird to the point where I had some security, which I thought was a lot.
“But they felt… obviously they knew stuff I didn’t,” he admitted.
“You know, you go and do your job every day thinking that’s it, and then for whatever reason.”
He continued: “I think it’s interesting on telly, the medium of TV is really powerful, and people think they know you really well.
“And there are occasions where you maybe don’t get back to someone because you just don’t, because you don’t know them and they find that offensive.
“And there are people who have got all sorts of issues as well, so you’ve got to be really careful,” he added.
Even now, some fans still think they are entitled to send Gethin inappropriate images.
“I get a lot of d*** pics,” Gethin shared. “Honestly, you get all kinds on there.
“I tend not to go it [social media] too much, but then you do open it sometimes or ‘view photo’ and you think, ‘Do I want to view this photo or not?’
“Sometimes it’s really nice, like a charity thing and you want to help, and other times you’re like, ‘Ugh, that’s not what I was expecting.’”
Following his hugely successful Blue Peter days, Gethin has been fronting BBC One’s chat show Morning Live since 2020.
The Rig Biz podcast is available to listen to on streaming services now.
