During Sunday’s instalment of BBC Breakfast, host Rachel Burden and Ben Thompson were discussing the infamous clip that has caused a lot of upset.

Joining them in the discussion were guests Sonia Sodha and George Parker, who were equally as shocked by the video.

Before the duo gave their opinions, Rachel said: “I can hear people around the country groaning, ‘Enough of Partygate already, why should we care about this new video?’”

Her comment didn’t go unnoticed and left many viewers angry at her question as they took to Twitter to share their outrage.

One viewer commented: “I wasn’t allowed to visit my mother in hospital whilst these partied. I will always carry a frown regarding the current tory government.”

A second wrote: “Rachel Burden: ‘I can hear people groaning about this latest video’ Is this the government line you’ve been given? She needs to get out & really listen, people are seething that this partying at No10 was going on while loved ones were dying alone.”

“‘Most people are sick of Partygate,’ says #BBCLauraK . I would say most people want to see the full facts and we haven’t had those yet, as the video shows there’s plenty more,” a third added.

A fourth said: “People who lost loved ones are not going to forget.”

The video showed official members of the Conservative Party drinking, dancing, and mocking lockdown restrictions.

The Christmas party that took place in 2020, was during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, when the British public was banned from socialising inside.

The clip, obtained by The Mirror, showed two members of staff dancing around with a sign which read: “Please keep your distance.”

In the clip, one man is heard asking: “Are you filming this?” as someone else replies: “It’s for party, erm, party use.”

Another man laughs as he comments: “As long as we are not streaming that we’re, like, bending the rules.”

Shocked by the video, Sonia told the BBC Breakfast hosts why the clip is important.

Sharing her outrage, she said: ”It is important to see a video of what went on.

“I think while some people may be thinking like they’ve heard enough about it, there are loads of other people who lost loved ones during the pandemic.

“So, seeing the actual video will feel like a slap in the face.”
