Batman’s Miracle Molly Teases Scarecrow’s Next Move in Fear State
A preview for Batman #114 features the hero’s new ally having a conversation with Queen Ivy, before realizing Scarecrow’s next move.
Scarecrow has been terrorizing Gotham City in Batman, and one of the caped crusader’s new allies, Miracle Molly, has figured out what the villain’s next move will be tied to in Fear State.
In a preview for Batman #114, Miracle Molly can be seen fixing her flying board, before she is approached by Poison Ivy, who has now assumed the self-given title of Queen Ivy. The queen of the green has recently grown a kingdom for herself underneath the city, now holding the power to reduce it to rubble if she should feel threatened or see fit. While talking to Ivy about how the queen has such potential for good and could become “one of the greatest heroes in the world” if she wanted to, Miracle Molly shares with her the knowledge and beliefs of her adopted family and society, the Unsanity Collective. While it is not fully revealed, Molly realizes that Scarecrow’s plans will be connected to the Collective and its technology.
The Unsanity Collective and Miracle Molly first appeared in the pages of Batman #106, which was the first issue of the series to be a part of DC Comics’ Infinite Frontier relaunch following the one-shot issue, Infinite Frontier #0. The Collective was born in response to the events of Batman: Joker War and the destruction of Arkham Asylum, and initially started out as a threat faced by the caped crusader. The Collective wound up in Batman’s crosshairs for stealing from media moguls, though it was revealed that they were hired to do so by Simon Saint.
Later on in Batman #108, Bruce Wayne (A.K.A. Batman, in case you are unaware somehow), donned his undercover identity of Matches Malone to get a closer look at the Collective and what they believe. Miracle Molly sees through his disguise and knows him to be Batman, but chooses to show him their way of life so he can understand what they believe in. Led by Master Wyze, the Collective wipes the memories of new members and leaves their skills, this way they can leave behind painful memories but still advance and grow as people and benefit themselves and others.
While explaining the Unsanity Collective’s mission to free others from their trauma and how they use Wyze’s Mind Machine to do so, she states that she wishes she could use it to free the entire city. It is then that the thought triggers what Scarecrow is planning to do next, though it is not fully clear how the Mind Machine may factor into his goals yet.
