Batman will need to enlist some help from some popular Doomsday Clock characters to save the universe in DC’s upcoming Flashpoint Beyond series.
Batman is going to be getting some unexpected help from a few popular Doomsday Clock characters in the upcoming Flashpoint Beyond series.
Approximately 11 years after DC’s initial Flashpoint run, Thomas Wayne will soon don the cowl once again and help put the universe back together in Flashpoint Beyond. Not only will Batman receive help from Flash while doing so, but he’ll also have no choice but to enlist a few other unlikely allies in his quest — Mime and Marionette of Doomsday Clock.
Mime and Marionette, also known as Erika Manson and Marcos Maez, are a villainous husband-and-wife duo first introduced in Doomsday Clock, DC Comics’ Watchmen sequel. In the series, the sadistic couple team up with Rorschach II and Ozymandias to brutally murder and mutilate anyone who stands in their way of finding their lost son and Doctor Manhattan. Whether or not Flashpoint Beyond actually takes place within the Watchmen universe still remains to be seen.
Waking up in a world he’d hoped was long gone, Flashpoint Beyond sees Thomas Wayne struggle with some serious questions like “Why is Deathstroke not acting like Deathstroke?” and “What’s Beyond the Omniverse?” The only way for the Dark Knight to find these answers is to scour the globe and track down an ominous foe known as the Clockwork Killer.
The 48-page Flashpoint Beyond #0, written by Geoff Johns of Doomsday Clock and featuring artwork by Eduardo Risso, kicks off a six-issue series that will release every two weeks. “Collaborating with Eduardo has been a dream my entire career,” Johns said to DC. “The chance to work on a story with such an iconic and legendary artist, centered around the troubled Thomas Wayne, made returning to the world of Flashpoint and its vengeful Batman special. Our goal was to create an event that’s every bit as emotional as it is epic, not only revealing the how’s and why’s of Thomas Wayne’s returning timeline but what it means to the past, present and future of Bruce Wayne and DC. We hope readers enjoy the ride.”
Risso, who worked on Flashpoint: Batman Knight of Vengeance #1-3 during the first Flashpoint series, said he was also excited to put Flashpoint Beyond in front of readers. “Embarking on a new journey with the caped crusader is always a challenge, but working with Geoff has made the whole process a true delight,” he said. “I’m certain that if audiences all around the world have as much fun reading it as I had drawing it, they’re in for one hell of a ride.”
Flashpoint Beyond #0 is available digitally and at comic book stores on April 5. A five-page preview will be included in all DC issues releasing on March 29 and April 5.
