Bathurst opens rare invite to Formula 1 cars
It’s hoped contemporary Formula 1 cars will grace Mount Panorama at this year’s Bathurst International as part of a new cavalcade for single-seaters.
Held over November 10-12, a rare opportunity is being offered at this year’s Bathurst International for high-profile open-wheelers to grace the circuit.
Restrictions mean single-seater racing is often limited at The Mountain and the exhibition will be a rare chance for some of the fastest cars in the country to tackle Mount Panorama at speed.

A total of six sessions, each lasting 20 minutes, will take place across the three-day event.
Contemporary and classic single-seaters are being invited to participate, with targets including Formula 1 and IndyCar.
One car is already confirmed for the exhibition, namely a V8-powered S5000. The S5000 cars are the fastest single-seaters currently competing in the country.

Nine more spots are open with prospective entrants being asked to contact event promoters, the Australian Racing Group (ARG).
“Management of the number of cars, requirements around vehicle safety and driver ability will be part of the selection process to ensure the safest and most enjoyable outcomes for competitors and fans alike,” an ARG statement read in part.
Last year, Liam Lawson drove a Red Bull RB7 around Mount Panorama in an untimed session.
It marked just the second time a contemporary Formula 1 car had taken to the iconic circuit.
In 2011, Jenson Button set the unofficial lap record at Mount Panorama with a 1:48.8s in a McLaren MP4-23.
Bathurst 1000 legend Craig Lowndes also cut laps in the car as part of a drive-swap where Button also drove a Holden VE Commodore.
Depending on what shows up, it’s entirely possible that lap record set by Button could be broken.
This year’s Bathurst International is headlined by the TCR World Tour as part of the TCR Australia Series.
Touring Car Masters will add a fleet of cars from New Zealand to its grid as well for a bumper line-up.
The Bathurst International will also feature the National Trans Am Series, V8 Touring Cars, Porsche Sprint Challenge, and Production Cars.
The Bathurst International event is the last leg of this year’s SpeedSeries calendar, which continues on August 11-13 at Queensland Raceway.
