Baron Geisler looked back on how he had been a “lazy actor” when he was younger, and how he snapped out of it after a director threw a script at his face for not memorizing his lines.

Geisler spoke about his experience working with director Andoy Ranay back then, during an interview for “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Friday, June 23.

“I was a lazy actor back in the day,” he admitted. “May kwento ako—si Direk Andoy Ranay (I have a story [which involves] director Andoy Ranay). I think this was 2 a.m.; everyone was prepared and it was a long scene.”

“Magte-take na kami and I mumbled my lines and nag-fumble ako. Binato [niya] ako ng script sa mukha; sabi niya, ‘I-memorize mo muna ‘yan!’, then he walked out,” he recounted. “After that, natuto na ako. Ayoko nang may magbato sakin ng script sa mukha, so sineryoso ko na.”

(We were about to film, then I fumbled and mumbled my lines. [Direk Andoy] threw the script at my face and said, “Memorize your lines first!”, then he walked out. After that, I learned. I did not want to be thrown a script at my face again so I took it seriously.)

When he was asked what he considers the most important lesson for him as an actor, Geisler responded, “[‘Yung] mahalin ko ang karera ko…” (To love my career.)

“Kasi dumating ang time na ilang beses na akong binigyan ng pagkakataon pero I took everything for granted,” he continued. (Because there were times when I was given a lot of chances, but I took everything for granted.)

Geisler also admitted lying several times to the public about being a “changed man” when in reality he still had a lot of things to process within himself.

“You know I’m not perfect. I’m a work in progress. Nagkakamali pa rin ako pero ang pinakaimportante is tayo agad, laban, show up,” he stressed. (I still make mistakes, but what’s important is that I immediately stand up, fight and show up.)

Geisler then noted that his wife, Jamie Evangelista, has played a huge part in how he became the person that he is now, adding that she has been helping him with his sobriety journey through “tough love.”

To conclude the interview, show host Abunda asked the actor to face a mirror and say what he wanted to say to himself.

“I’m proud of you, kid,” Geisler said while looking at his reflection. “You did well. Maintain and keep it up.”  /ra
