Barnet held by fellow National League play-off hopefuls Bromley

The Bees dominated the early stages of the game and put the away side under constant pressure, eventually leading to two good chances for strikers David Moyo and Harry Pritchard.

Both players seemed to grow agitated with one another as numerous balls in behind from Pritchard failed to find Moyo during a sustained period of pressure.

The lack of precision and poor decision-making were symptoms of a disappointing first 15 minutes from the home side, despite having most of the ball and the better chances.

After coming close on several occasions, and with Bromley manager Andy Woodman very animated on the touchline, the away side clicked into gear.

Wing-back Besart Topalloj began to provide a constant threat down the Bromley left-hand side and came close with a back-post header, but Barnet goalkeeper Laurie Walker got down well to make an important save.

Referee Sam Mulhall was then forced to make a decision as Omar Sowunmi clattered Pritchard with a poor challenge, but didn’t deem the offence severe enough to show a red card and instead booked the Bromley captain.

The deadlock was then broken with virtually the last kick of the first half as Finley Potter got on the end of a deft David Moyo header from a corner to poke home from close range.

The second half kicked off with Woodman’s side by far the better team, as Kelley Fisher and Topalloj were relentless in stretching Barnet’s back line and provided significant impact for the away side on several occasions.

It didn’t take long for Bromley to restore parity and grab a well-deserved equaliser as Michael Cheek pounced on a dropped ball from Walker after an inswinging corner and tapped in.

After the introduction of Harry Forster, Bromley looked more and more dangerous on the counter-attack and the pacy winger got in behind twice midway through the second half.

But he couldn’t offer a killer pass or finish and the match then fizzled out, with neither side able to get in front despite a late surge from the away side and several scrambles in the Barnet box.

The result leaves the play-off hopefuls in fifth and eighth place, respectively, and both managers will already be looking ahead to Monday’s Easter fixtures.

Dean Brennan’s Barnet travel to Maidstone United.
