Barclays to shut an extra 6 bank branches – full list of closures in July

Barclays is set to close six more branches, according to the latest data from LINK, the UK’s largest cash machine network.

The high street bank has announced further closures as customers move more towards online banking.

Branches will be closing in Redditch, London and Newquay as well as Sudbury, Oadby and Birmingham, this summer.

Currently, Barclays branch opening times vary, with some open until 5.30pm.

However, starting on August 7, almost all branches will open 9.30am to 3pm, Monday to Friday, with the counter open the full time.

Here is the full list of the latest closures and when they are shutting for good:

  • Redditch – September 29
  • Bude – September 29
  • Newquay – October 13
  • Mayfair, London – September 29
  • Charing Cross Road, London – October 6
  • Fakenham – October 6

Several high street banks have now taken the decision to decrease the number of physical branches across the UK.

Barclays digital customers have grown to 10.7 million, with over 90 percent of transactions completed digitally.

Barclays Local is the largest network of alternative branch formats in the UK, with a presence in over 200 communities and a further 70 Barclays Local sites planned by summer 2023.

Barclays will still provide in-person banking support through a range of solutions and formats, including branches, under a model reflective of all customer needs and usage.

Day-to-day transactional banking: such as cash or cheque deposits and withdrawals can be completed at the Post Office, with almost 12,000 Post Offices across the UK.

A Barclays spokesperson said: “As visits to branches continue to fall, we need to adapt to provide the best service for all our customers.

“Where there is no longer enough demand to support a branch, we maintain an in-person presence through our Barclays Local network, live in over 200 locations, based in libraries, town halls, mobile vans and our new banking pods.

“We also support access to cash with our cashback without purchase service, 24-hour deposit-taking ATMs and by working alongside the Post Office and Cash Access UK.”
