Barcelona to accept Newcastle offer for midfielder when January window opens
Barcelona are ready to accept an offer from Newcastle United for Philippe Coutinho.
Coutinho has been persistently linked with a return to the Premier League having struggled in Spain since his £140m move from Liverpool in 2018.
Newcastle, who are currently second from bottom in the Premier League after 10 games, are expected to spend heavily in the January transfer window following the Saudi-backed takeover of the club which went through last month.
Coutinho was among the first players to be linked with a move to St James’ Park and with Barcelona under intense financial pressure, they are eager to listen to offers.
According to SPORT, Barcelona are waiting for Newcastle to make their move for the Brazil international and ready to accept a loan offer than includes a mandatory purchase option.
Barcelona are currently in talks with club legend Xavi who is expected to leave his post at Al-Sadd and return to the Camp Nou to replace Ronald Koeman, who was sacked last week.
Newcastle meanwhile are continuing their search for a new manager, with Unai Emery the latest name to turn down a move to St James’ Park.
The former Arsenal boss had been the club’s first choice to replace Steve Bruce but the Spaniard confirmed on Wednesday he remains ‘100 per cent’ committed to the project at Villarreal.
Former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is thought to be the club’s alternative option.
