Barcelona chief Joan Laporta issues defiant Lionel Messi message
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has issued a defiant message following Lionel Messi’s shocking free departure this summer. Laporta vowed that ‘the club is above all’ as he explained the situation and where the Blaugrana now stand.
On Thursday, Barcelona announced that Messi would not be re-signing after his contract expired earlier in the summer.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, the 34-year-old has entered talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a summer transfer.
Laporta hosted a live press conference on Friday morning to explain the situation and how Messi’s future has boiled down to this outcome.
The Barca president explained the extreme lengths the club would’ve had to go to in line with Financial Fair Play if they were to extend Messi’s contract.
