Barcelona boss Xavi has responded to rumours he met Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in Germany earlier this week to discuss a move to Camp Nou.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the top talents in Europe, and subsequently been linked with a host of big clubs.

Haaland’s current contract at Dortmund isn’t due to expire until 2024, but there is said to be a £63million release clause in his deal which becomes active this summer.

Real Madrid and Manchester City are believed to be some of the teams interested in the striker, while recent reports have claimed Barcelona head coach Xavi travelled to Munich to meet directly with the Norway international to try and convince him to join the Catalan club.

When quizzed about the reported meeting, the Spanish boss refused to confirm or deny it took place.

‘I can’t give you details… we work on the present and future of the club,’ he said.

‘When things can be announced we will announce it – as we did with Pablo Torre, who is an excellent signing.’

‘I haven’t seen a player yet who doesn’t want to sign for Barça. Everyone is excited to come to Barça,’ he added.

‘Then it depends on clauses and more, but no one is turning down Barça.’
