Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney has revealed he has sent a direct message to Welsh legend Gareth Bale, in a bid to lure the five-time Champions League winner out of retirement. McElhenney and co-owner Ryan Reynolds have enjoyed quite the year with the Welsh side.
Under the guidance of Phil Parkinson, Wrexham returned to the Football League for the first time in 15 years after winning the National League title last month. The funding of the Hollywood stars has undoubtedly helped their success, having brought in plenty of Football League experience through the likes of Paul Mullin, Elliott Lee and Ben Foster.
One big name McElhenney and Reynolds are keen to lure in is that of Bale. The Welshman announced himself as one of the best players of his generation during his career, starring for Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid and the Welsh national team.
Having won three La Liga titles, five Champions League crowns and three Club World Cups, Bale left Madrid to join MLS outfit Los Angeles FC, before calling time on his career a year later. McElhenney and Reynolds however are keen to bring the 33-year-old out of retirement.

Speaking to YouTube channel Aarthi and Sriram, co-owner McElhenney said: “Gareth, okay – just you and me talking here for a second. I know Southern California is beautiful and I know, because I’m from Philadelphia and I’ve lived here for many many years.
“But you’re a young man, and you have the rest of your life to live wherever you want. But, if you could just come back for one last year of glory – one last year – I believe your nation, the nation of Wales, is counting on you to do the right thing. Call me.”
