Baldur’s Gate 3 Gets Hotfix #3, WASD Mod, and Data on Player Choices
Baldur’s Gate 3 remains at the very top of Steam’s best-selling games chart, even though it doesn’t look like it will break another concurrency record this weekend.
Meanwhile, developer Larian Studios released hotfix #3 late Friday, fixing over 200 bugs. Scratch, the dog that can potentially join the player’s camp, has had his behavior tweaked so that he can now seek nearby treasures on his own without needing the player’s prompt. Additionally, the Blue Behir Dice cosmetic is now available to all players. This was supposed to be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version due on September 6th, but players had found its existence by rummaging through the game files, and an unlock mod appeared yesterday. Larian subsequently decided to, in their own words, ‘roll with it’.
Yesterday, Larian’s weekly community update also shared some interesting data on the player’s choices made during the opening weekend of Baldur’s Gate 3.
In that narrow timeframe, players spent over 10 million hours in the developer’s rendition of Faerûn, which would translate to over 1225 years of playtime. 93% of the users chose to create a customizable protagonist (including The Dark Urge Origin), with Half-Elf being the most popular race choice and Githyanki the least popular. When it comes to classes, Paladins topped the chart, and Cleric closed it. Among those who picked an Origin character, Gale was the most popular choice and Lae’zel the least common one. Overall, users spent an estimated 88 years in the Character Creation process, and nearly 10% spent at least an hour creating their characters.
Around 815K enemies have been shoved into a chasm, while a sizable 12% of all player deaths in Baldur’s Gate 3 were caused by friendly fire (likely a misplaced Gale spell). The aforementioned Scratch received over 750K pets, while players spoke to over 1.4 million corpses (through the Speak with Dead spell) and 2.4 million animals (through the Speak with Animals spell). In matters of romance, Shadowheart was the most popular option followed by Gale, but nearly 100K players got rejected by Astarion.
Lastly, 65% of users chose to defend the Druids’ Grove instead of attacking it, and 368 users somehow managed to finish the game in the launch weekend, surely skipping every single dialogue and every possible sidequest.
On another note, if you’re playing Baldur’s Gate 3 with the keyboard and mouse controls but would prefer to ditch the default point-and-click movement system, there’s a handy new WASD mod to fix that. The installation process requires you to follow these steps:
-
In the game settings, remove WASD from controlling the camera, then close the game.
- Edit C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\inputconfig_p1.json with a text editor and add the following entries.
- {
“CharacterMoveBackward” : [ “c:leftstick_ypos”, “key:s” ],
“CharacterMoveForward” : [ “c:leftstick_yneg”, “key:w” ],
“CharacterMoveLeft” : [ “c:leftstick_xneg”, “key:a” ],
“CharacterMoveRight” : [ “c:leftstick_xpos”, “key:d” ]
} - Install NativeModLoader from Achievement Enabler
- Only download Part-1-NativeModLoader
- Put bink2w64.dll and bink2w64_original.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin\
- Optionally but recommended:
- Install AutoHotKey
- In-game, bind camera controls to arrow keys
