Bake Off’s Freya apologises over non-vegan cake on show: ‘Sorry if this is disappointing’

Bake Off 2021 contestant Freya Cox, 19, has issued a “small disclaimer” ahead of her debut on the Channel 4 show this evening.

Freya, who is making history as GBBO’s first ever vegan contestant, took to Instagram to issue an apology for being unable to make a vegan cake during one of the challenges on tonight’s episode.

The Bake Off hopeful shared several snaps of a beautiful cake she made recently in view of her 7,906 followers.

She penned alongside the snap: “IT’S CAKE WEEK!!!! Happy bake off day everyone.

“I made this cake to celebrate all things cake, inside is an orange sponge, lemon buttercream and toasted flaked almonds. All vegan of course!

“Want to say a huge thank you to my close friend @dylan_jacomb for the incredible pictures he took for me.”

Freya then took the opportunity to explain why she couldn’t incorporate her passion for vegan cooking into her first Bake Off technical challenge.

She added: “*wanted to add a small disclaimer before the episode, I was desperate to show the world vegan baking is just as exciting with the hope to inspire people to give it a go.

“For obvious reasons I wasn’t able to change the technical challenge as it would mean the whole show was unfair.

“Sorry if this is disappointing to hear but once the show has finished I have plans to Veganise the recipes for you all, so I hope this makes up for that.*

“Are you going to be watching tonight…let a girl know!!”
