Bake Off fans think they’e worked out why Giuseppe really won

Fans of The Great British Bake Off shed tears of joy as Italian baker Giuseppe Dell’Anno was crowned winner.

As the hit Channel Four baking contest drew to a close show favourite Giuseppe lifted the coveted trophy after a heartwarming 10 weeks in the famous tent.

Giuseppe was Star Baker several times in the series.

And despite an oven mishap in the final he became 2021 champion after competing against Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira.

“There are no words. I’m speechless for once,” said an emotional Giuseppe.

As the congratulations poured in viewers joked about why he really won the show – and it’s down to a kitchen utensil.

@heideewickes tweeted: “He kissed Noel’s spatula. It works!”

Earlier in the final Noel asked the three finalists to kiss a blue spatula.

“You just have to kiss his head and then you win,” he said.

But Giuseppe was the only one to do it.

@maisie_ovenden pointed out: “Giuseppe the only one who kissed the spatula.”

Judge Prue Leith praised their winner and said he had inspired her to take up more Italian-style baking in her kitchen.

“He’s such a classical beautiful baker,” she said.

And the official Great British Bake Off Twitter said: “Great determination, great skills, great perseverance… and MR SPATULA!”
