Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 comes slashing onto Switch in July

Teamwork makes the Dreamwork

It’s been a long time coming, but Gunvolt fans finally have cause for celebration, as Inti Creates has announced that the anticipated sequel Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 will be bringing its sword-swinging sci-fi mayhem to Nintendo Switch on July 28. The title will be available to purchase digitally via the eShop, priced at around $40.

The third chapter in a saga that began on Nintendo 3DS way back in 2014, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 will see more dynamic and highly kinetic 2D action as returning protagonist Gunvolt is joined by the deadly and acrobatic Kirin for another tale of magic, machines, and mayhem. Players can switch between the two heroes on the fly, synergizing Gunvolt’s explosive close-combat abilities with Kirin’s swordswomanship to lay waste to an army of enemies and mammoth boss characters.

In addition to the arrival of Kirin, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 will feature a nostalgic “Image Pulse” mechanic, which allows Gunvolt to call upon their memories and utilize the talents of over 150 characters and fallen foes pulled from the entire trilogy of games. And should our heroes perform particularly well in battle, they will be treated to the beautiful music of virtual idol “Anthem,” whose songs will then boost the duo’s talents in battle. So Anime.

While much of the new sequel remains relatively under wraps — particularly concerning its plot, bosses, and chief antagonist — Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is looking pretty durn snazzy in its latest trailer, and fans who have been waiting for the newest chapter of this saga will hopefully be pleased with what Inti Creates has shown to date. Speaking of fans, they should take note that a physical edition will follow from Limited Run Games, with details expected on contents and price at a later date.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 launches on Nintendo Switch July 28.
