‘Awesome’ Giddey shatters NBA history

Aussie Josh Giddey cannot stop breaking NBA history and the 19-year-old has finally broken the mark which has narrowly eluded him.

Aussie star Josh Giddey has smashed the all-time record as the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double.

At just 19 years and 84 days old, Giddey has lowered the bar a long way, taking the record from Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball, who set the record at 19 years and 140 days last season.

Ball lowered it by 177 days from Markelle Fultz.

But despite a fresh slice of NBA history, Giddey’s Oklahoma City Thunder lost to the Dallas Mavericks.

Giddey had been out due to Covid protocols and returned for the match against the Mavericks.

He put on a show, with a career-high 14 assists.

Giddey was had a massive night, leading the Thunder in points (17), rebounds (13) and assists (14), while only giving away three turnovers.

He also tied the NBA assist record for teenagers at 14 alongside LeBron James and Zach LaVine.

It was with four minutes left in the fourth quarter than Giddey finally got his 10th rebound.

One of the commentators said “That’s terrific, it’s coming in the right way because he’s worked hard in a lot of different areas just to get that.”

The other said the third quarter was a “passing clinic”.

Later, they said it “wasn’t a small triple-double, it was a big triple-double” and that it had been great to see his game evolve before the world’s eyes.

While Giddey still has to improve his shooting, having scored seven from 16 shots, he did hit three of his five three-point attempts.

Social media went nuts for the Aussie young gun.
