‘Awesome’ Aussie cop goes viral over RBT clip

An Australian police officer has become a sensation on social media for the way he acted during an RBT with a Muslim woman.

An Aussie police officer has been praised as “awesome” for his friendly demeanour during an RBT with a Muslim woman on New Year’s Eve.

The interaction, which is going viral on TikTok, shows a woman in a hijab being pulled over for the test.

“Don’t worry officer, we’re Muslim. It’s Haram [forbidden] to drink,” the woman tells the officer before she blows into the breathalyser.

After taking the reading, the police officer then crouches down next to the woman with a smile on his face.

“I know that’s what they say,” he says. “But can you believe some of the biggest readings I’ve ever had are from people out of Saudi Arabia and places like that who are over here as international students.”

“Really?” the woman responds.

“They have a few and they [say], ‘Wow this is fantastic this stuff,’” the police officer says.

It’s unclear how the passengers react to the joke as the clip abruptly ends, but it’s clear from the comments that the police officer has won a few hearts.

Many people were surprised by how friendly the officer was, especially compared to how police officers act overseas, calling him “awesome” and a “legend”.

“I love how he got down to tell the story. So much drama haha,” one person commented.

“Ah a friendly cop. Very rare species,” added another.

“People seem shocked about someone joking with police followed by an orderly conversation,” added a third. “We’re lucky here in Oz to have the relationship with police we do. It’s not the case everywhere.”
