Avengers Forever Suggests One Supernatural Hero’s Multiversal Importance
Avengers Forever #2 suggests that a member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes has a vital and unique role within the overall Marvel Multiverse.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Avengers Forever #2, now on sale from Marvel Comics.
The Avengers are counted among the Marvel Universe’s most powerful heroes. But the modern incarnation of the team has been taking that to a much more epic scale than usual, with genuine multiversal ramifications awaiting the result of their current battle.
This includes recent revelations that suggest that some Avengers might have unique levels of singular importance. Robbie Reyes might even be the “All-Rider” as teased in Avengers Forever #2 (by Jason Aaron, Aaron Kuder, Carlos Magno, Scott Hanna, Roberto Poggi, Cam Smith, and Guru-eFX), suggesting that the current Ghost Rider has a serious role to play in the future of the Marvel multiverse.
Robbie Reyes has a unique position in the Marvel Universe. Even among the multiple Ghost Riders that exist in the world, Robbie lacks some of the more common connections that bind them. Notably, this includes his signature Hellcharger (which the multiversal villains Black Skull and Ghost Goblin both admit is a unique oddity across the multiverse) and his lack of connection to Mephisto. Although he isn’t the only Robbie Reyes in the multiverse, he’s seemingly the only one cursed with the powers of the Ghost Rider. Even as Black Skull cuts Robbie to pieces, his innate hellfire is hot enough to burn the villain’s minions to a crisp in seconds. There’s something special about Robbie Reyes, something that Black Skull wants to uncover.
The key to this secret might be within the weaponry of the Black Skull’s allies. It turns out his collection of Ghost Rider Skulls from various universes (which have been converted into weapons by the monstrous villain) recognize Robbie upon sight. They whisper among themselves within the bag, calling him the All-Rider. This implies that Reyes might have a greater destiny than anyone could have ever expected, something akin to an god-like figure for the multiversal collection of Ghost Riders. If this is true, then Robbie might be the key to not only saving the Marvel Universe, but the multiverse as well.
The Deathlok legions are tied to this force, and their knowledge hints at a team of true multiversal Avengers. They’ve already revealed that the current Starbrand is fated to become incredibly powerful and important to the continued survival of the multiverse. It now appears that Robbie has a similar fate. Like Starbrand, Robbie serves as one of the current heirs to the ancient powers of the world. His apparent and mysterious role as the “All-Rider” suggests that he has a unique and important role in the future. This could potentially remove Robbie from Earth-616 for a more important destiny, making way for the upcoming return of Johnny Blaze as the Ghost Rider of the core Marvel Universe.
Notably, Black Skull isn’t completely correct when he claims that the Earth-616 Robbie Reyes is the only version of himself across the multiverse who has ever become the Ghost Rider. A version of Robbie was transformed due to an encounter with Venom, while another took part in the Ghost Rider races at the Killiseum during the Secret Wars crossover. A version of Robbie was also introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Agents of SHIELD. However, none of these versions of Reyes seemed to possess the full power of the Earth-616 Robbie Reyes, who now appears to be one of the most important versions of Ghost Rider in the multiverse. With the help of the Tony Stark Ant-Man who hails from Black Skull’s world, Robbie might yet discover his true multiversal purpose, and help save the multiverse in the process.
