Australian Open LIVE – Djokovic’s dad escapes ban for Tsitsipas final

Novak Djokovic will be aiming to win a record-equalling 22nd major title by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in today’s Australian Open final, which is set to get underway at around 8.30am. The Serb will go into the match as the hot favourite to claim the spoils but will likely be given a stern test by his Greek opponent, who will be desperate to upset the odds by sealing his first-ever Grand Slam title ahead of his more experienced rival.

Djokovic has been nursing a hamstring injury throughout the Australian Open but will be looking to put his troubles behind him to wrap up yet another triumph in Melbourne and return to the very top of the ATP rankings ahead of Carlos Alcaraz, who has not featured at the tournament due to an injury of his own. The 35-year-old has already insisted that he will be feeling the pressure, though, as he prepares to compete in his 33rd major final despite having not lost a match at the Rod Laver Arena since 2018.

“Look, the final stages of a slam at this stage of my career, I know every single Grand Slam is a golden opportunity for me to try to get another trophy,” said Djokovic.

“I don’t know how many more I’ll have, opportunities. Of course I feel it. I feel pressure. I feel stress as any other player. I feel nerves. I feel excitement. There’s a lot of different emotions that I go through.

“I know his game pretty well. He knows my game well. I know what’s ahead of me, and I’m excited. Fortunately for me at this stage of my career, because of all the achievements, it is always basically every match or every tournament there is always something on the line, particularly when the Grand Slams are played.

“Of course, I’m privileged to be in this position, and I’m hoping for the best.”
