Australia outclass India to win World Test Championship title by 209 runs

India’s poor show at the ICC events continued as Australia outclassed Rohit Sharma led team in all departments of the game and won the match by 209 runs to clinch maiden World Test Championship title. This was India’s second defeat in successive WTC finals after losing to New Zealand in 2021 in the inaugural edition

Australia began their campaign on Day 5 by requiring seven more wickets as India were 164/3 by stumps on the fourth day. And Australian bowlers didn’t waste much time to pile on India’s misery as they got Virat Kohli (49) out early, followed by Ravindra Jadeja (0) and Ajinkya Rahane (43) to be bowled out for 234 in 63.3 overs.

Australia were clearly the better team on all fronts while India had only themselves to blame for yet another loss in a global event. India’s last ICC title came way back in 2013 and it was their second successive defeat in the WTC final, having gone down against New Zealand two years ago.

Australia declared their second innings on 270/8 midway through the middle session.

Scott Boland (3/46) was the best bowler on view as he removed Kohli and Jadeja in a single over to decisively end the contest and the rest was formality.

Nathan Lyon (4/41), however, had the best figures as he mopped up the tail in a jiffy.Brief Score: Australia 469 and 270/8 decl.

India 296 and 234 all out in 63.3 overs (Virat Kohli 49, Rohit Sharma 43, Ajinkya Rahane 43; Nathan Lyon 4/41, Scott Boland 3/46).
