Aussie cricketer on the mend after heart attack
Former Australian cricketer Ryan Campbell is recovering well from his heart attack over the Easter weekend and is expected to make a full recovery, a statement from his family says.
The 50-year-old was taken to hospital after a heart attack on Easter Sunday, and was in an induced coma.
Thankfully, things have taken a turn for the better – the family saying that he is now stable and on the right track.

“The family is thrilled to announced that this afternoon the incredible staff at the Royal Stoke University Hospital successfully discontinued Ryan’s sedation,” the statement read.
“He has reacted very well and is now in a stable condition.
“Whilst still very weak, he is talking and responsive. Doctors hope that with continued progress he should make a full recovery.”
His brother, Mark, told Triple M last week that things were tracking in the right direction.
“They’ve taken the heavy sedation off, so he’s actually woken up. Now they’re just looking at trying to work out what’s wrong with his heart,” he said.
“He did a few tests last night. They’re saying that there doesn’t appear at this stage to be any brain damage, his brain wasn’t starved of oxygen. So that looks OK.
“They’re not sure now why his heart is still being arrhythmic. So that’s another issue that they’re now going to look at over there.”
Campbell is best remembered for his brief stints in the Australian ODI team in the mid-2000s, and his ‘ramp shot’ that paved the way for plenty of others since.
A mainstay in the Western Australian team for a decade, Campbell became the coach of the Dutch international team in 2017. His wife is a citizen of the Netherlands.
