AU teachers and students to be trained in meditation and yogic practices – Times of India
Prayagraj: Allahabad University has signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Heartfulness Education Trust. Yoga is being propagated and disseminated through Heartfulness in a scientific manner all over the world and now following the signing of the MoU, teachers, students, officers and employees of AU will also be learning the scientific method of meditation and will also get acquainted with the effective form of Yoga in the Indian tradition of knowledge.
Now over 23,000 students along with over 400 teachers and over 689 non-teaching staff and officials will now get lessons in yoga and meditation at the hands of experts—free of cost.
To start with, the 25 teaching faculty members of the department of Sanskrit and the strength of 1300 odd students of the department would be joining the training session which would be at least of one-hour duration. This will be followed by training of volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS). Later, the rest of the faculty members of the faculty of Arts, Science, Commerce and Law would be trained along with the rest of the students of AU, inform prof Anil Pratap Giri, the nodal officer of the training.
“We want to train the faculty and the students for striding a balance between the physical, psychic and spiritual aspect of the human body because when there is a perfect balance between the three, only then there would be harmony and progress in the life of the individual and the society at large”, said prof Giri who himself is trained in the field and has been practicing the technique involving meditation and yogic practices since 2012.
He further informs that the training sessions would start from the first week of December in the central hall of the department of Sanskrit and when the strength of trainees would increase, the venue would be sifted as per the number of individuals.
“Yoga is being propagated and disseminated through Heartfulness in a scientific manner all over the world including India and now following the signing of the MoU, teachers, students, officers and employees of AU will also be learning the scientific method of meditation and will also get acquainted with the effective form of Yoga as per the Indian tradition of knowledge,” informed AU public relation officer Prof Jaya Kapoor.
The MoU was formally penned on Monday. Vice-chancellor of Allahabad University Prof Sangeeta Srivastava on signing of the MoU said that Yogic science is vital for physical and spiritual development of man.
Registrar of Allahabad University Prof Narendra Kumar Shukla handed over the signed copy of the MoU to the Center coordinator and Zonal Coordinator of Shri Ramchandra Mission, Pratima Srivastava.
“This course would be available free of cost for the students, teachers and staff of AU. Initially it will start from the Sanskrit department and will then be extended to students who have opted for the National Service Scheme as volunteers. In the next phase it would then be extended to all other students, teachers and employees of the central university,” Prof Kapoor said. The sessions would be available in online as well as offline modes, she added.
