Assassin’s Creed Mirage: New Details on Length of the Game, Story, Combat and More Now Out
As the release of the highly anticipated next title in the Assassin’s Creed series, Mirage, draws near, additional details continue to emerge. Following the recent gameplay trailer at Ubisoft Forward 2023, the developers have been revealing more information through interviews and interactions with the press. We now have insights into the expansive size of the map, the game’s return to the roots of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and the intriguing story of Basim.
In a recent interview with Wccftech, narrative director Sarah Beaulieu provided details about the story and various aspects of the game. According to Beaulieu, Mirage revolves around Basim’s journey. While Basim was initially introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the version of Basim we will encounter in Mirage is notably distinct from the one seen in Valhalla. In this upcoming title, Basim is portrayed as a younger character who is just embarking on his path. Throughout the game, Basim’s character will undergo significant development, transitioning from an assassin to a seasoned master.
When questioned about notable scenes or important elements to watch for in the game upon its release, Beaulieu points to “the very last one.” She mentions that it was the first scene she wrote and holds a special place in her heart. Considering Valhalla serves as a precursor to Mirage, it is reasonable to anticipate the convergence of certain storylines by the conclusion of the upcoming game. Beaulieu commented:
“There is one ending and a specific ending because the evolution of Basim is very specific and it has to lead to the other Assassin’s Creed, especially Valhalla. So that’s why there is a very specific ending and there are no character choices.”
Beaulieu also revealed additional details, such as the absence of modern-day elements in Assasin’s Creed Mirage, except for the presence of the Animus. Additionally, players will have the opportunity to delve into the relationship between Basim and his eagle, which will become a significant aspect of the game. Mirage will introduce fresh elements related to the Isu, in addition to the ongoing narrative surrounding the Hidden Ones.
More on the combat of Assassin’s Creed: Mirage
Moving on to combat, the gameplay trailer unveiled a new mechanic known as the Assassin’s Focus. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the iconic hidden blade will play a more significant role in the upcoming game. The most recent update suggests that players will have the freedom to eliminate targets in any preferred sequence, without it affecting their overall progress. Additionally, tools can be unlocked in any desired order.
As for costumes and customisations, a wide range of options will reportedly be available, including the comeback of iconic costumes like Altair’s Robe.
How big is Assassin’s Creed Mirage?
It is now widely known that Assassin’s Creed Mirage was initially planned as an expansion to the 2020 title Valhalla. However, it eventually evolved into a standalone game, albeit without significant expansion in scale. As confirmed, the map of Mirage will not be as vast as Valhalla’s England or Odyssey’s Greece.
Easy Allies spoke to Ubisoft and reports that the developers “compared it specifically to Constantinople in Assassin’s Creed Revelations and Paris in Assassin’s Creed Unity.” While the maps are different in size, they are both much smaller than the worlds featured in the more recent titles like Valhalla and Odyssey.
Beaulieu also mentioned that the game does not feature additional elements like different modes. According to the company, the game is priced on the lower end due to its compact nature. In terms of length, Beaulieu stated that it is similar to the first Assassin’s Creed game, which takes approximately 15 hours to complete the main story and around 20 hours to complete the game in its entirety.
