Dancing on Ice judge Ashley Banjo has said there is ‘something wrong’ if none of the stars of the show strike up a romance behind the scenes this year.

The 33-year-old is preparing to star on the new series of the programme on Sunday night, and admitted he wouldn’t be at all surprised if sparks flew backstage after seeing it happen before.

‘If you get through one of these shows without any romance there is something wrong,’ he told the Sunday Mirror.

While he is close to new member of the judging panel, Oti Mabuse, Ashley also insisted his wife Francesca Abbott isn’t at all concerned about the ‘curse’ of the show.

‘We are good friends,’ he said about Oti. ‘She has semi-adopted my baby. When she danced with Diversity in the past she would have my baby on her shoulder and was carrying her around.

‘You trust her with things like that. You always have a wild time when Oti is around. She’s always doing a TikTok in the corner, she is very positive.’

He added: ‘My wife isn’t worried about the love curse, I bring her to rehearsals with me and she’s friends with Oti, they are in regular contact.’

Tonight’s episode will see Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Oti making the move to Dancing On Ice where she will begin her role on the judging panel.

Sitting alongside Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill and Ashley, she’ll be there to critique the stars as they’re put through their paces each week.

The ‘greatest show on ice’ returns tonight, with stars including Rachel Stevens, Happy Mondays dancer Bez and Sally Dynevor taking part in the competition.

Dancing on Ice begins on Sunday at 6.30pm on ITV.
