Asgard’s Wrath 2 to Deliver 60+ Hours of Triple-A Action to Meta Quest Devices This Winter

Following the announcements of the Meta Quest 3 and other games like Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice, the final reveal of yesterday’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase was Asgard’s Wrath 2.

Once again developed by Sanzaru Games (known for the Sly Cooper franchise, they were acquired by Facebook three years ago to be a part of Oculus Studios), it is a direct sequel to 2019’s acclaimed action game.

Asgard’s Wrath 2 sees the Cosmic Guardian (the main character) busy pursuing the Trickster God Loki into Egypt, where players will have to defeat Egyptian gods, monsters, and warriors to prevent Loki’s goal to unravel the fabric of the universe.

Sanzaru is attempting to deliver a massive triple-A action RPG in VR. According to the studio, the main campaign alone will require over 60 hours to be completed. Then there are various types of side content like temples and caves as well as a separate mode called The Uncharted Rift. This mode, inspired by rogue-lite games, will test the player’s ability to survive as long as possible in procedurally generated dungeons. All kinds of loot gained from the Uncharted Rift can then be carried back to the main campaign. The mode also features asynchronous online multiplayer elements, allowing players to send their character to aid or hinder other players. Either way, you’ll get extra loot by participating in the asynchronous online of The Uncharted Rift.

In the main campaign, the developers confirmed that the Cosmic Guardian will possess four mortal heroes, each one with their own powers and story. The first one is called Abraxas and he’s seeking revenge against Sakhmet, the daughter of the sun god Ra. According to Sanzaru, Abraxas is a melee warrior, though he owns a handy boomerang axe that returns to him after being thrown. The other heroes will have different skills. All of them can be customized anyway through the leveling system, where you can unlock upgrades and even super abilities.

Animal companions are returning in Asgard’s Wrath 2. Abraxas, for instance, can count on the panther warrior Subira. The animal companions have been enhanced, too, and heroes can now ride on their backs. They can be leveled up in a similar way to the main character, and players can also spend time with them to learn their stories and increase their friendship level.

Enemy AI has been bolstered as well. According to Sanzaru, they have the ability to call for reinforcements, and some of the foes may also heal their allies or increase their damage output.

Fighting is not everything in Asgard’s Wrath 2. The developers promised a huge world to explore filled with interesting NPCs to talk with and side activities like crafting, cooking, fishing, and mini-games.

The game will be available for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3 in Winter 2023. Pre-orders are already open on the Oculus Store, coming with a free download of the first game, an Asgard’s Wrath 2 character bundle to be used in the VR Battle Royale game POPULATION: ONE, a themed Meta Quest home environment, and the in-game The Armor and Sword of the Sun God Ra gear set.

You may check out the developer walkthrough on YouTube for even more information on the game.
