Asda is selling £1 engagement rings for Valentine’s Day
If you’re thinking of making a big romantic gesture this year, but perhaps are looking to save the pennies, one supermarket may have just the thing.
Asda is selling £1 engagement rings in the run-up to the special day.
The budget ring is a simple silver-coloured band with a diamond-style gem in the middle – and it comes in a heart-shaped box.
It’s available in stores now, although it looks like it’s already sold out online.
However, we have a feeling it will be restocked shortly, with February 14 fast-approaching.
The product description reads: ‘Share some love with this ring with a matching heart box.’
We all know how expensive engagement rings can be (with many suggesting you should spend three months’ salary on the piece), so this provides a cheaper alternative for those who don’t have a lot of cash to spare.
Alternatively, the piece of jewellery could act as a placeholder, while you find your partner’s dream ring – after popping the question.
But it seems the ring has divided opinion on social media.
One person on Facebook said it would be a great idea for children.
They replied: ‘I will take my eight-year-old son to get one for his girlfriend, he proposed in the school playground the other day with a pretzel, I think she would prefer one of these.’
And someone else said they would be perfectly happy with a ring like this, commenting: ‘Honestly my man could have proposed to me with a Haribo ring and I would have still said “yes,” I love him more than any material object. Some people are just shallow.’
While others have mocked the ring. One individual noted: ‘Does it come with divorce papers?’
Asda is following in the footsteps of Poundland, which has sold bargain engagement rings in previous years.
