Asda and Iceland set to close more stores this month – full list of areas

Asda Living stores sell clothing, homeware, and entertainment goods, including electronics, kitchenware and furnishings.

The supermarket explained that the affected branches have been “running at a loss for a number of years”.

A spokesperson explained: “Despite the best efforts of our hard-working colleagues, our Asda Living store in Wrexham has been running at a loss for a number of years so unfortunately following a period of consultation we have decided to close the store.

“We recognise this will be a difficult time for colleagues at the store and we are in discussions with all of them to support them through this process, we will do all we can to find alternative roles in other local stores,” they told the Mirror.

The retailer has a total of 33 Asda Living stores across the country and is currently in the process of launching a new convenience store concept, Asda Express.

Asda stores closing in July:

  • Asda Green Retail Park, in Wrexham, Wales – closing on July 31
  • Asda Living in Eastgate, in Bristol, England – closing on July 31, or earlier

The supermarket plans to launch its new format store this year and open 300 Asda Express by the end of 2026.

An Asda spokesperson said: “This is a refresh of one of our owned Asda forecourts and it’s been brought in line with our Asda Express brand as it is a site that, given the residential location, has been identified as having the potential to serve customer’s convenience needs.

“We know the Asda Express brand resonates with consumers, so bringing this proposition to our forecourts is an exciting test and learn activity for us.”

Iceland is also shutting down some stores this month, including the Swansea City Centre which is expected to permanently close its doors on July 29.

The supermarket has already closed at least six branches this year, and is planning another closure after the summer.

Iceland stores closing this summer:

  • Iceland Swansea City Centre – closing on July 29
  • Iceland Birkenhead – closing on September 16

Argos recently announced its plans to close a total of 100 stores, including one in Cardiff this month and two in England in August.
