ASA to launch PH’s first Gender Bonds on July 5

MANILA  -ASA Philippines Foundation will launch on Wednesday, July 5 the country’s first Gender Bond as it continues to develop innovative ways to help improve the quality of life of its clients.

ASA has partnered with BDO Capital and Landbank for the bond issuance.

ASA Philippines Foundation is a nonprofit and non-government organization that aims to help poor Filipino families rise out of poverty by providing microfinancing that will help them establish or improve their microenterprises.

From its humble beginnings in Camarin, Caloocan in 2004, the foundation said in a statement that it had expanded its reach across the country and is now catering to more than 2 million micro-entrepreneurs. It has become a key stakeholder in driving development and financial inclusion of the underserved, underprivileged and marginalized communities nationwide.

ASA Philippines Foundation provides cheaper credit access to poor communities, offering initial loans ranging from P6,000 to P10,000 depending on the borrower’s capacity to repay, with no upfront deductions, according to the statement.

With 100 percent of its clients being women, ASA Philippines Foundation recognizes its vital role in taking the necessary steps toward gender-responsive financing mechanisms to economically empower women entrepreneurs, and in doing so, make strides in tackling gender disparities.

By facilitating the participation of women in income-earning activities, ASA Philippines helps promote their involvement in participatory decision-making processes, thereby strengthening the equality of men and women in the society, it said in the statement.
