As Maruti-Toyota unleashes hybrid tech on rivals, why pricing reveals more than meets the eye

Maruti has priced Grand Vitara’s strong hybrid variant at an INR50,000 premium to Toyota’s Hyryder. It has, however, priced the mild hybrid at an INR20,000 discount to the comparable Toyota Hyryder model. The pricing sends a message that Toyota will push its strong hybrid tech more aggressively while Maruti will focus more on selling its mild hybrid technology.
