Arun Bali Dies at 79: Veteran film & TV actor who last appeared in Laal Singh Chaddha passes away in Mumbai

Arun Bali Dies: Veteran actor Arun Bali passed away at the age of 79 years in Mumbai. His last rites will be performed on Saturday in Mumbai once his two daughters, who reside in the US, land in Mumbai. 

Bali’s son Ankush said his father was suffering with Myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease caused by communication failure between nerves and muscles, for which he was admitted to a hospital early this year. Ankush said his father was responding well to the treatment but passed away at around 4.30 am.

“My father left us. He was suffering from Myasthenia gravis. He had mood swings for two-three days. He told the caretaker he wanted to go to the washroom and after coming out he told him he wanted to sit down and he never got up then,” he told PTI.

Arun Bali made his TV debut in the year 1989 with Doosra Kewal. He is known for his roles in films like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Kedarnath’, ‘Panipat’ among many other films. The actor was last seen in Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer Laal Singh Chaddha. He played one of Aamir’s titular character’s co-passenger on the train.

He is also famous for essaying the role of King Porus in the 1991 period drama Chanakya, Kunwar Singh in the Doordarshan soap opera Swabhimaan and the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, in the controversial and critically acclaimed 2000 film Hey Ram. In the 2000s, he became known for his “grandfatherly” roles. He became a household name after he featured in the Hindi serial, Kumkum Pyaara Sa Bandhan. The role of Harshvardhan Wadhwa in Kumkum also garnered him a number of awards. He is also reported to be a National Award-winning producer.

Some of his popular films include “Saugandh”, “Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman”, “Khalnayak”, “Satya”, “Hey Ram”, “Lage Raho Munna Bhai”, “3 Idiots”, “Ready”, “Barfi”, “Manmarziyaan”, “Kedarnath”, “Samrat Prithviraj”, and “Laal Singh Chaddha”.

He will also be seen in “Goodbye”, also featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Rashmika Mandanna. The film will be releasing on Oct 7.

Bali is survived by a son and three daughters.
