Arsenal dealt Martin Odegaard blow as Aaron Ramsdale undergoes medical

Martin Odegaard is unlikely to be registered in time to face Chelsea this Sunday due to problems with his visa, reports claim. The Norwegian is in London to put the finishing touches on his return to Arsenal but the attacking midfielder may have to show patience before making his full debut.

Arsenal are understood to have struck a deal between £30million and £35m to sign the 22-year-old, who starred for the club while on loan in the second half of last season.

Odegaard then returned to Real Madrid for a full pre-season under Carlo Ancelotti but he failed to win over the Italian during his time back in Spain.

After being left off Ancelotti’s squad list for the La Liga opener against Alaves, Arsenal received the green light to try and negotiate a transfer and a deal was swiftly agreed.

The player has now signed his contract after passing a medical but he won’t be in action this weekend according to football.london.

Unlike Odegaard, Ramsdale is expected to be in Arsenal’s squad for Sunday’s match against Chelsea.

An attacking midfielder and new goalkeeper has always been high on the agenda for Mikel Arteta and Edu this summer but talks have proved challenging.

Arsenal also explored a potential deal for James Maddison before they were priced out of a move by Leicester, who were quoting £60m.

The signing of Odegaard at a cut-price will also allow Arsenal to spend elsewhere with a right-back also on the agenda.

The two deals are set to take Arsenal’s spending to a staggering £129m (stats include potential add-ons).

That figure is more than any other Premier League clubs with Manchester United second at £114m.

There will now be little margin for error for Arteta, who is already feeling the heat following the 2-0 home defeat by Brentford last Friday.

Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira are amongst those who could still depart.
