Army sets up Women Empowerment Node in a Rajouri village to make girls ‘self-reliant’ – Times of India
Jammu, Dec 5: In an effort to boost financial independence among women in rural regions through self employment, the Army established a ‘Women Empowerment Node‘ where Dressmaking classes for women/girls were commenced at village Dhar Sakri of Rajouri District.
PRO Defence Jammu Lt Col Devender Anand said, “Main objective of the programme was to improve the economic condition and assist the women in earning a livelihood through self employment who have always been an important part of society.
“A total of ten women were trained for a duration of 20 days, ” Col Anand said, adding, “During the classes these women were imparted with practical training in tailoring, stitching and sewing technology skills.”
“This initiative is part of a holistic effort of the Indian Army towards women empowerment.” Col Anand added that the step will further encourage women to earn additional Income for themselves.
This is the second such initiative- aimed to empower rural women folks by the Army, earlier Army had conducted a 60 day long stitching and tailoring cadre for the women of Dadhonta & Kutler Bala of Panchari block in Udhampur district which concluded on December 1.
Col Anand said that this initiative has received an overwhelming response from local women and a total of 67 women attended this stitching and tailoring cadre for a duration of 60 days.” He said, “The beneficiaries mainly include young women from poor economic backgrounds and the vocational course will go a long way and bring huge dividends in their life.”
